New Curation Reference Manual Chapter
The DCC’s Curation Reference Manual is a growing online publication that provides an in-depth analysis of specific topics in digital curation, written by international experts in their fields. The latest chapter about the role of microfilm in digital preservation has just been released.

Connected Histories

It is now possible to search British History Sources 1500-1900 via Connected Histories at http://www.connectedhistories.org/

This website searches across a range of digital resources from Origins.net ; British History Online ; The Proceedings of the Old Bailey Online 1674-1913 ; British Museum Images and other digital resources. The Index to the National Archives Catalogue will be added later this year.

The website is a joint project between the Universities of Sheffield, Hertfordshire and London and the Institute of Historical Research.

National Portal to Historic Collections

American Heritage and AASLH have launched a new website that enable searching across many different historical collections. ‘Every institution in the National Portal has its own personalized main page that allows users to search the individual museum’s collection. In addition, a national search page allows searches across multiple collections.’ The protype is available at www.NationalPortal.org

Rugby Football League Archive

The Archives Hub regularly features a university archive on their website to advertise the wide range of resources that are available in university archives across the country. Transcribe Bentham

The Bentham Project at UCL seeks the assistance of willing participants in an initiative to transcribe the manuscripts of philosopher and reformer Jeremy Bentham (1748-1832).

Today sees the launch of the Transcribe Bentham Transcription Desk, an online tool designed to harness the effort of all Bentham fans – whether schoolchildren, history enthusiasts, academics or armchair philosophers – to bring his work into the digital age and the world at large.

The Transcription Desk allows participants to transcribe material from facsimile images of Bentham’s previously unpublished manuscripts. The resulting transcripts will be included in a freely-accessible database of Bentham’s Manuscripts at UCL, and will assist in the preparation of future printed volumes of /The Collected Works of Jeremy Bentham/ at the Bentham Project.

Milestones by SatNav

The Milestone Society (http://www.milestonesociety.co.uk/) have kindly made their database of UK Milestones available for in-car Satellite Navigation systems (Sat Navs)

The Society was established in May 2001, and aims to “identify, record, research, conserve and interpret for public benefit the milestones and other waymarkers of the British Isles”.

The data (Point of Interest File – POI) is freely available to download at the following ARCHI page along with the POI files for ‘UK Prehistoric Rock Art.’ and ‘The Anglo-Saxon Curches of England and Wales’:
